We as photographers all too often fall victim to the editing cave, justifying deadlines and endless editing as reasons we we can’t go out and seek inspiration from our fellow artists. We’ve come to recognize the inarguable benefits of reflecting on the work of others, conversing with fellow photographers, and taking a much needed break from our digital darkrooms. Over the course of March, ASMPNY will be hosting two rounds of “ASMPNY On The Town” – gallery walks to photographic exhibitions happening in the same area at the same time.

Saturday, March 9th, we will be meeting at 12pm at ClampArt to see their group show The City (And a Few Lonely People), inspired by Olivia Laing’s groundbreaking book, The Lonely City. We will then walk to Miyako Yoshinaga Gallery for 1pm to view Lisa Ross’s I Can’t Sleep: Homage to a Uyghur Homeland, documenting the Uyghur people, who find the far west region of China (Xinjiang) to be their home. Afterwards, we’ll head to Daniel Cooney Fine Art at 1:45pm to see artist Michael Joseph’s exhibition, Lost and Found, and finish the walk out at Metro Pictures for 2:15pm and review their show, Lessons of the Hour–Frederick Douglass, a 10 screen film installation exploring the incomparable achievements of America’s foremost abolitionist figure by artist Isaac Julien.
